This piece was created in 2014 for The Philadelphia Flower Show. The theme called for creating a work of art to reflect a famous artist’s garden, which made me think Monet, which lead me to an impressionistic piece. Of course many of us already use an impressionistic style when we create with our pressed flowers.
We use bright colors, and pieces of pressed materials pieced together to create the image of something, similar to the leaves in the above picture. So what we are looking to do in this class is to move away from “perfect”. The entire background is created using broken, cut up and “smashed” pieces of petals and leaves (aside from the trees).
